Question Timing Chain change,

My 2007 HHR with 210,000 miles is making noise on start up, then is quiet I would just try changing the tensioner but with this amount of miles and no record of any previous change of the timing chain I feel it's safer to change the chain and guides as well.

I know about the Harmonic balancer bolt needing replaced,

So my questions are even though the gears are steel, should these should be changed as well ?

And does the timing chain cover gasket need to be replaced as well ? or can these usually be reused ?

Is there anything else I need to know ?

At that milage yes change the gears and all related gaskets, and while you're at it swap out the water pump!
There are kits available with all the parts required included in the kit.

Auto correct has me stumped.

The book says to replace the gasket and all of the bolts. Sometimes books are sales tools.

Good idea to think about the other chain and it's tensioner also.

If it's a 2.4 the variable valve timing stuff need extra care.

I have a 2.2. And as stated in my post I'm.changing the timing chain. I can see the gasket but I didn't see the bolts listed. But will check into those as well.

I meant the camshaft sprocket bolts. Not the cover bolts.

GM tends to want you to replace most bolts over 13mm.

I'm at 184,000 miles on my 2.2 '07 and 200,000 miles on the wife's '03 Sunfire GT, both are on the original chain and sprockets, no noise yet so I have no changed them out, yet!
I am considering the timing chain and the head gasket change just as a preventative maintenance measure! I want to avoid bent valves and damaged pistons.
