Timing chain motor trashed?
Awsome thank you I can pull that puppy out tomorrow and throw it in 1 more step down. Oldblue I have read many of yours and donbrews posts about all different topics seems like you guys have done almost everything there is to do to these cars. Very informative.
front cover and valve cover off. Seen the dreaded chain bounce first hand rotating the engine by hand. The noise makes so much more sense now chain bounces smacks upper guide and also the tensioner in the rear makes a popping noise.
Are the balancing sprockets indexed also? I understand the cam and crank sprockets are.

Oldblue I watched that like 10 times last night I started over thinking when chain colors wouldn’t line up till I listened to the ending of the video. What I mean is are the balance shafts notched so you you can’t put them on wrong. I didn’t see any notching or anything in the video so I figured I would ask the people that have done it already :-)
If you are replacing the gears then yes. 2.4 is a VVT engine. In the Cloyes video in the thread it explains the differences. I do believe if you are just going chains tensioner and guides then the same kit works. However someone will correct me if I am wrong. You can also see the part numbers in the video.
so in regards to the balance shaft sprockets, the above video says the sprockets come out in a foot long assembly but the Cloyes video shows the sprocket comes off easily, I take it my 2.4 will be the same as the Cloyes?
