Problems/Service/RepairsIf you have a problem with your HHR, want a tip on repairing or performing a particular service to you HHR here is the place to post!
Hello I'm new here and have an issue.
My 2010 HHR 2.2L has a timing issue I have the code PO011 that keeps coming back. I've replaced the solenoids , the timing chain and changed the oil I'm at a loss as to where to go next. I've read about the timing Phasers but not sure if i should spend the money without some advice. I know there are 2 different timing sprockets used on these mine are the thicker one (for lack of a better term) any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

Engine size? How many miles? Has it ever had a chain job?
What do you mean by "keeps coming back?" Are you clearing the code?
Any other codes or recent issues? How's the maintenance history, oil changes in particular?
What do you mean "solenoids"? The VVT valves mounted on the top of the valve cover? The various names are misleading. While these parts have a ":solenoid" component they are called "camshaft position actuator solenoid valves".
If you mean #1 and #2, they are the correct ones. Make sure the wires associated with them are in good shape and the connectors are good. P0011 is a "performance" code, meaning that they are not sending data within a acceptable range; either a short or an open circuit, nothing to do with the sprockets or sensors.
Continuous clearing of the CEL does not accomplish anything, most codes go away when the repair is completed. That only delays your readiness for smog testing.
Since this is a 2010 2.2L you have VVT that is the type of sprocket. If it was a 2008 2.2L it would be non-VVT.
P0011 is intake VVT valve performance.
Conditions for setting the code:
The ECM detects the difference between the desired camshaft position angle and the actual camshaft position angle is greater than 5 degrees.
I guess that the intake sensor could be reporting incorrect data. Most likely a wire is compromised, passive coils of wire encased in epoxy rarely fail.
P0446 indicates the EVAP vent solenoid is malfunctioning. Does the auto shut off at the gas pump drive you crazy?
