What was the exact code? I doubt that it mean the sensor is broken.

If the code is C0252 the book says calibrate the sensor with a scan tool, if the code is still present replace the EBCM. It mean checksum error I.E.: needs calibrating or the EBCM is broken.

After the sensor is replaced it must be recalibrated.
A new EBCM needs programming.

Since you asked:

Check your RPO code sheet in the glove box, make sure you have JL4 brakes.

Cause that’s the active brake system that uses the steering sensor

Ok then you have the JL4 code that’s the sensor you need.

Except that it is not a bad sensor, unless you are throwing parts at it. Just because a part name is in the description of a failed OBD2 test does not mean that part is bad.

When you read codes you are asking the computer to tell you what test has failed. The tests have code names like C0252, which test a specific system; in this case it is testing the checksum of the EBCM in relation to the steering angle sensor. The checksum is stored in the EBCM and indicates when the steering is centered. If the steering has been off center the checksum does not match the stored checksum.

Please do some testing before you throw parts around. Most sensors are coils of wire, they don't wear.
