Transmission service?

I just broke 40,000 and I was wondering when should I have the tranny serviced?

It should say in the back of the owners manual on required maintenance. I thought though that the transmission lasts at least 5 years/ 100,000 miles without any maintenance...but I could be wrong.

50k / 100k only if this applies

(h) Change automatic transmission fluid and filter if the
vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of these
conditions:
− In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature
regularly reaches 90°F (32°C) or higher.
− In hilly or mountainous terrain.
− When doing frequent trailer towing.
− Uses such as found in taxi, police, or delivery
service.
If the vehicle is not used under any of these conditions,
the fluid and filter do not require changing.

If I where you I would have the fluid flushed at 50,000. Then have the filter and flush at 100,000. That's just my opinion. I don't agree with no service untill 100,000 again my two cents

Yeah it's the same story that VW gave me with my last car. I believed them and it cost me $1800. I'll get it flushed at 50,000

Here's a basic rule of thumb.

If it's a VW mandatory service interval, don't believe them.

Just change the tranny oil more often. You'll save a lot in the long run.

So, is there an actual plug to drain the tranny fluid underneath? I hadn't looked, but for some reason I was under the impression that it was hard to do yourself on this car.

transmisssion needs to be done at 100,000 miles, and believe that it is synthetic and not a dextron blend.

Wow. Dug up a 4 year old thread.

And yes it is Dexron for the autos. Dexron VI is listed in the owners manual.
