If that is the issue after running the tests he said he would send to a shop not comfortable doing that kind of job himself,I pray it's not the problem but if so it's obvious we shouldn't tinker

OK, what's the history? What was it doing that led to it being sent to the mechanic? Was the CEL on? WERE there any codes? Has it ever overheated?
