Typical Lifetime of Battery

My 2010 HHR is driven very little, especially the past year. Less than 21000 total miles. Only a few hundred last year. I had trouble remembering to charge the car up. Eventually, the battery just was not holding a charge and I replaced it. But I thought how great it was that the battery lasted 10 1/2 years.
I went ahead and got another at the dealer.
What kind of lifetimes have you been getting on the battery?

In my 2008 HHR Panel 2LT I just swapped out the OEM, 3 years ago, come the 28th of this month. It still load tested good, but I was feeling like I may have been on borrowed time.
Guy at parts store put it in his S-10 & I believe still using it..

I think they last so long because they are away from engine heat & weather.

The Original battery is an 8 year battery. They don't retail batteries that long (that I've ever seen), the one you got from the dealer has whatever is printed on it, probably 3-5 years.

I replace the original in my 2011 late last fall, so about ten years, proactively to eliminate it as a contributor to another problem and because Winter was coming. Turns out is was fine, so I somewhat pointlessly kept it to clutter up my shop. Might be helpful in a pinch. So far it’s been a handy 12VDC power supply.

In the interest of full disclosure, the car still only has less than 80K miles. I credit the battery management system for the long life. It never seems to charge the battery beyond 12.6V.
