There was a major issue with the AC blower. Not the motor itself. It works fine when hooked up direct. First it only worked when set on the highest setting, then intermittently, then not at all, And the fog lights kept coming on. And the BCM had been in a wet environment for a while before my daughter bought the car. She got it cheap because the carpet was moldy. We siliconed the sunroof shut and replaced the carpet with rubber mats.
So yeah... it's likely the BCM.
Working on it now.

The only reason for the fan to run on high only is a bad resistor pack. 2006 models have a butyl patch under the cowl that is prone to failure, this lets water get into everything on the passenger side; the fan motor and resistor pack and the carpet.
Fog lights may be owner installed poorly.
So, unlikely the BCM, more likely wires corroded.
Have the recalls been done? https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gm-r...-status-50716/

Not aware of the cars history. My daughter only had it for 2 years.

That's kind of why I posted the link.

You can go to your local Chevy dealer and they can pull a service report on your particular VIN for all work done at a Chevy dealership anywhere at any time for no cost. That's what I did when I purchased my 10 y.o. HHR. I received a two page report with some very interesting history. Fortunately all recalls had been completed including the ignition. It made purchasing the car a much easier decision for me.

That's actually a good idea. (dealer records) Cost anything?
Looked up recalls on websites - says 0 records for unresolved issues for that vin.

Fixed.
Junk yard BCM - $8.99 and matching ECM - $17.99 from the exact same kind of car. The original question I asked at the beginning was "...if I spend $100.00 for a license (HP Tuners) and delete the VATS will the engine stay running until I shut it off?" The answer, after carefully examining all the other options was - (wait for it) - um, yes. The reason I hesitated was that the HP Tuners license was not refundable, whereas the other options at least allowed me to get either a refund or at least store credit. And I was not keen about the idea of paying $180.00 for a reconditioned BMC and $150.00 more to program it... all for a $400 car.
Thanks to all those who responded, I actually did investigate your suggestions.
Thought I'd post the solution here in case anyone runs into the same issue in the future.
I never changed the VINs on the replacement modules, Florida doesn't check our cars, and now I can start it with a screwdriver if I want to.
