Defective new pump.

 

I guess there is another application now. That does not work in HHR. Or somebody crossed something. Is that from NAPA?

When you got it did you search using the part number? 19330913

I got those pages using "hhr washer pump" in eBay search. and the part number on your old part and the new part number.

 

I did search using 19330913. I bought the part from RockAuto.com It is advertised as A/C Delco. I have seen this same thing on several other sites. Even the pictures of the products show the same port orientation as the one I got. RockAuto says that they checked with A/C Delco and that it's the right one for my car. I am sending the defective one back the replacement is on it's way.

 

Of course, I'm no expert. And I did not hold the pump in my hands.
But I have a feeling that the blue (or white in the new version) muck easily rotates 180 degrees and takes the correct position.
I do not see any screws or other fasteners. The blue detail just planted on a tube as a cap on a bottle of beer.
Perhaps it is twisted in the wrong direction in the process of packaging. I think the problem can be easily eliminated.

If you could rotate the valve the assembly would not fit into the jug.

I don't think the orientation of the valve makes a difference, it is the direction of the motor that dictates which window gets squirted.

 

I got the new replacement today and it is the same as the bad one I sent back. I am concerned as to whether I need to reverse the tubes or not. I can tell you this. If I hook up either one of these to the water tank. Then put water in the tank with the hoses disconnected water runs out of the side with the flat surface and not out the other side. That side (the flat side), I believe is the front windshield tube connection and the other is for the back window. Since water runs out of the same flat side of either pump no matter what the orientation, I would need to switch the tubes requiring an extension on the back window side to reach around to the other side. Am I right?

 

Just give it a try the way it is, worry about it afterwards.

 

When I removed mine for the timing chain change the fluid came out the hose pointing toward the front of the HHR , I'd hook it up and give it a try

 

OK, this should close this thread. I put in the replacement pump I got in the mail yesterday. I decided to just try it the way it is and see what happens. This one works. Apparently it doesn't matter which way the hose connections are pointed. It is squirting and the front washer button operates the windshield spray and the back switch operates the rear window spray. I appreciate all the comments and suggestions I received on this thread. I realize that this is (should be ) a simple inexpensive process, but when it doesn't go as planned a semi-mechanical guy like me gets frustrated and I like to understand why it's not working. Thanks.
