I know that this is an old thread.
my question is, GM Genuine with sprocket, or, AC Delco without.
Chains and pump were done 50k ago so I will not be replacing them.
Thanks

This thread is about the pump, so what sprocket are you asking about?

GM genuine and reuse your OEM water pump sprocket, which you will do if you’re going thru the access plate opening.

Sprocker/drive gear, whatever.
I knew what I was talking about.
The drive gear is not OEM as the pump was changed out when the chains were done.
Either way. a repair shop quoted me $349.00 for the pump.
I thought that price was awfully high.

I have the GMB installed now, it’s been about 3 years, it has metal impeller, the ACDelco also has a metal impeller. I ordered a FelPro water pump gasket kit

This gave me new seals for the water transfer orings and pump gaskets.

If you dont use tool like Oldblue suggested and use the half-moon type like I bought….make sure the dia. of it fits timing cover bore tight (mine had to must slack….and shim the face out so fits against the gear with no slack when tightened)..,.do yourself big favor and stuff clean rag in there so not possible to drop waterpump gear bolt in the engine.

Mine was like this…before I added to it.
Had I know better at the time I would have bought the full circle type
Had I know better at the time I would have bought the full circle type. And I had to get longer bolts after 1/2” plastic shim added to face of it

RJ,
  • Sprockets: Have teeth that mesh with a chain, rack, or other indented material. Sprockets are never meshed directly with other sprockets.
  • Gears: Mesh directly with each other.
