Will not crank!!!

06 HHR will not crank. 5 speed - seems that the battery has juice, the lights are bright but the "check charge system" light is on. Will not turn over. Had been out to car eariler to close the windows (did not try to start it, just turned on power to close windows) may have left the dome light on for a while. Tried to jump the battery - no change - it doesn't seem like its the battery....Any suggestions????

Try pressing down firmly on the underhood fuse box. Most people think they're resetting the fuses. But it really is a case (documented by GM) of the 2 piece fuse box separating.

If the car will not start after this, try disconnecting the battery (in the trunk) for several minutes then reconnecting.

I am assuming the car is out of warranty....is it??? If not, it's a dealer problem. Let them resolve it.

the car will turn off all the lights if you leave them on too long, its some sort of battery saver i read about. are you pressing the clutch all the way in? if you try to start it with out pushing the clutch the starter wont turn over.

Thanks for all the tips - turned out to be the KEY! The spare key works, the original does not. I remember a post somewhere here that suggested the key could do that.

Had the same thing happen to me many moons ago. Dealer could not find both keys, so they made me a spare that I put away for several months. One day I inadvertantly grabbed the other one and the car would not start. Called the dealer, they sent a tow truck but I kept trying to start it anyway (we humans are like that ) As the tow truck driver pulled into the parking lot, the car started. Apparently the spare key had not been "cycled" and once I hit the right combination after trying both sets it fixed itself.
