The pivot point that locates the left side arm for the wind deflector broke this morning. The part in held in place with two small screws. Unfortunately, it is not a replacement item, according to Chevy. The entire frame assembly is around $300 and another $560 for a dealer install. Looks like either a salvage yard trip or a switch to a plastic deflector.

You might want to check again as I think they finally have it as a replacment piece. I thought I saw it here now being avaiable and no longer do you have to replace the whole thing.

In was at the dealers at lunch today. This doesn't mean that the person at the counter knew what she was talking about. She printed out a breakdown of the sunroof and said that since the bracket wasn't pictured seperately, it wasn't available. I guess I could try another dealer.

Had the same problem 2 years ago. At that time the only fix was a whole new sunroof assembly. Now they have a what looks like to be a $2 + labor jury-rig repair..........

jx3,

Thanks for the info. I'll head over to the dealers at lunch and order the part. Hope to get the same counter person who initially told me I had to order the entire frame

Edit: Just got back from the Chevy dealer: $6.18 for the mounting bracket. The person at the parts counter told me that if a TSB is developed to replace a component on an assembly, the initial assembly drawings are not always updated to reflect the new replaceable component. This site, and jx3, just saved me $300. Thanks

Dennis

Glad to hear that you saved the bucks, but I can not take much of the credit outside of pointing you to the info. Credit goes to Brad (ChevyMgr) for keeping us posted on the most up to date info.

cheap part, expensive labor

Each replacement part is $7 at my dealer, who suggests replacing both sides, both the broken one and the intact one. Apparently, the replacement runner is beefier than the original. However, it's four hours labor to remove the headliner and then rivet the replacement into place.
