$700

even $500 , sounds rediculous to me. i had 1 put in my dodge caravan, at my house , and the guy drove here from anouther county , for $300. the caravan's windshield is 3 times as big as the hhr. also he will sell you 1 for $150 , but they are not so easy to remove and install without the proper tools and experience. that sealer dries really fast. i put the rear in my s10. i'd much rather pay the $150.

Mine was around $350, insurance would not cover it. Safelite did the work, PPG with a tint strip.

Cracks can be repaired if the are less than 6", the Resin will fill it in. I've done them. (using a professional repair kit) However you know they are there

The windshield was replaced when it acquired a crack (covered by insurance - flat rate $50). Unfortunately, the weatherstripping seeped (all over) and in 2 years I had to have that redone ($60 out of pocket, not covered).

Similar to another thread, but it is worth repeating that maybe this is an opportunity to check on just how good your insurance company is. I have been with Allstate, and in the 3 times I have replaced windshields (over many years) even though I have a $500 deduct, my cost was zero.(Crack has to be longer than the width of a dollar bill for replacement otherwise they only cover repair).

Wow, thank you all very much, you Guys are great. I'll make sure I ask for a PPG windshield, I had forgotten about that - I did remember it when I had a side window replace in the TB SS this last summer (doing yard work and my edger kicked up a stone and broke the window behind the passenger door on the side).

I did check with my insurance Company they said they would cover anything over $250, and I got a line on a company from another forum member, I am going to call.

I would start on this Saturday but I am working a motorcycle show in Fredericksburg this Saturday. But, since Monday is a holiday I'll start calling around then and see what I can come up with. I don't think I need to be in a real hurry since the crack is nowhere in your field of vision, it's only about 4-5 inches from the top running towards the passenger's side.

Thanks again you all are very helpful and it is greatly appreciated,

Dave

I will be calling my insurance company soon. Soon after I bought the HHR I got a nice sized ding in the windshield but never did anything about it. Then a couple nights ago I heard another thwack noise but couldn't see where it hit. The next morning I had a huge crack from the top center downward into an L shape, with each portion of the L being at least 8". Then this morning I got hit with another rock which left another ding.

Maybe I should just wait until the windshield collapses a this rate.

I have broke two windshields on 2 past cars and never paid a dime. My insurance said Florida requires them to repair them without a deductible

Actually, that's not entirely accurate. It depends on the length, and type, of the crack. A spider crack or a crack longer than a couple of centimeters, yes, replacement is the only option. However, so long as the crack is out of the main line of sight, a short, single line crack can be stopped by drilling a small hole at each end and filling it in with what ever epoxy they use for glass repair. I had this done on a Cutlass I owned years back. It worked great. Of course, you really wouldn't want to do this if the crack was in the light of sight.
