First Drag Passes on my 2009 SS

I was at Speedworld last night and made threee passes. The first just off idle launch 15.12 @88mph The second I thought I would power brake it and launch with more boost...mistake. It lust blased the front tires. 16.40 @ 91 mph The third pass i launched from an idle. 15.21 @ 90 mph. I made all of these passes with the trans in drive with the TC in comp mode. There are zero mods, this is an out of the box HHR SS running on 87 octane. Too much fun.

Next time use 92 oct and you will gain about 20 HP.

Dependingf on the conditions and your driving you may see 15 flat to high 14's.

Manage your wheel spin many lose a lot of time there. Many times easy off the line will result in a quicker run.

Glad you had fun!

Interesting results, but why in the heck would you run 87 octane in an SS? As mentioned above you are likely losing twenty hp under boost due to the ignition retarding significantly. Also there is likely "learning" going on that will reduce your max boost as well as reducing ignition advance.

I've heard of people putting 87 and driving around town in there SS, but not purposely going to the drag strip with 87 octane and racing it. I know I wouldn't do it.

Zoomer, Speedworld really doesn't like to prep their track much. I ran mine there once last year and was horrid. I still need to head back to the track and test the mods.

As for the 87 octane, I didn't go out there with the intentions of making a pass. If it were a planned event I would have run 91. 20hp with just 91? ...If thats the case I am all over that! That would have to be a pretty big swing in timing and boost, at least I would think for this little motor. Does someone have dyno numbers somewhere? The Mustang I have run it took 4 more degrees advance @ 26lbs to make another 30 hp. That is with 352ci, 8.5 cr, 88mm turbo and running on VP C-16. http://www.youtube.com/user/bzoomer
