$30 Shocks vs. $90 Shocks
$30 Shocks vs. $90 Shocks
Hi, all!
There's a wdie variety of shocks & struts. Will a $90 shock/strut really be $60 better than a $30 shock/strut? Not racing the vehicle. Normal driving. Looking for ride comfort.
Thanks!

Yes, there is a difference. They will both feel pretty much the same after installation, though the cheaper ones usually don't promise "OEM Ride Quality". But more important the cheaper ones will deteriorate faster. Stick with a good brand name like Monroe or KYB.
I would go cheap.... however you should investigate "complete struts" as they include all of the parts that you SHOULD replace anyway for less money. Like the mounts/bearings, bumpers, etc.
Rear shock, I don't believe you would notice a difference.

Same old argument, prove that an expensive part comes from a different factory.
I recently was shopping for a relay for my home A/C, $10 from HomeDespot identical part from a manufacturer supplier $180+shipping. Both parts are generic "no name". Do I still get what I pay for?

You WILL NOT be happy with $30 struts!
Even if they do feel good at first (which I doubt), they will deteriorate quicker than you could even think is possible
Sometimes good old common sense is your best bet

Thanks for all the input. $30 was a rough number tossed out. Asking for a friend buying shocks for an '02 Mustang actually. Neither one of us has bought suspension components recently. He's a cheap bastard, looking for the cheapest out and I related my experience. I put new tires on my HHR and new struts. I told the garage I wanted a nice ride. They put on some hard tires and really stiff struts. It would be fine if it was a sports car, but it's all too harsh for my wife's car. She doesn't know the difference but I can feel it when I drive the car.
