Joe's blows (IMHO) for several reasons. The main being they are a cash-only resturant with exspensive, small portions and excessive noise levels (10x worse than Red Robin on a Friday night).

As for "Real" Mex, we have that/them here in WA. I was after the much touted Tex-Mex cuisine. Which leads me to yet another question:

Because it it seems to use the same ingredients, is Tex-Mex just bland/unseasoned Mexican food?

As a sidenote:

I was able to score some good take-out wings and sauces from Buffalo Wild Wings off of the I20E @ SH360. If they would allow me to do it without the sportsbar ambience, I would consider a local franchise.

fajita's and many other foods find their origins in south texas and north mexico along the texican border which is the relation to TEX-MEX.....

alot of the dishes in texas are crazy popular among the anglos like "barbaqoa", "brisket tacos" and many many more......

i think most of it is just that old mine is better than yours thing and it is just marketing more than anything really......you can find all these dishes in all the us and nearly all of mexico, so then how is it really TEX-MEX.....just that old arrogant texas thing again.......but if you end up in the right spot there really is some of the best HOME COOKED mexican, mex, tex-mex....whatever right here in dallas.......there is a family here in dallas the "Ojeda's" that have been making FINE TEX-MEX for pennies for more than 40 years......the grandfather and grandmother opened a resturant in west dallas off of maple ave. and the daughters and duaghter-in-laws have taken it and ran with it and they now have locations all over dallas county......they serve the most insane cinnamon icecream (so good you will slap your grandma if she is still alive).....and they are some of the most awesome people......the nieces and nephews run most of the resturants now and the food is still pennies and the icecream is still so good my grandma has a permenant black eye!!!!!!!!!!

if TEX-MEX is your poison then these people are your dealers.........

Hmmm... Come to think of it, like ranch dressing, I can't remember hearing of fajitas until the late 80's. And I had no idea there was a name for melted cheese wrapped in a tortilla.

I'll tell you what, when you come up here, I'll take you to a good ol' mom & pop seafood resturant.

Looks like I'll have to rent an HHR and stay in Dallas next time.
