Roddin on the River 2009
Well!! What Fun This Event was! You pull in the gate and the club simply say to you go park where you like and come back for reg and goody bag!! Met Dixie and Kieth on Thursday eve at the Riverside with their sweet Flamed 07 Sandstone, HHR
We proceeded to get situated in our spots, and checked out some of the quality rides that were there, and then locked up the babies and went to our hotels....
Forcast for Friday: 104 deg. Nancy and I got there around 11:30 (early huh! LOL) That's Ok everything starts late and goes into the evening. Hung out with our new friends for a while untill the 104 mark was hit, then the girls decided to drag Kieth to the outlet mall across the street!! Meanwhile I proceeded to enter the "back up to the cone" contest (they wouldn't let me keep the hatch open, DARN!!
No matter put the old girl, as they announced it: "feeler gauge measurement" close (just luck! I couldn't see anything) and won the event!!! They wouldn't let us know who won till Sunday AM,,,, The prize was a free entry for one of their shows next year!! We hung out a while longer before calling it a night Gates closed at 10PM...
Saturday Forcast: 107 deg! We got there earlier 9AM, judging started at 10. We were glad to see Bud, Barbara & Harvey were there!! we did the last min detail and started to prepare for the heat! and got aquainted.
Lots of intrest was to be had and I gave out almost ALL of my cards and fliers!! (I need more) They had a poker walk at 1:30 but Nancy wasn't at 100% yet and we decided not to push her recovery from bronchitis, so we passed on that, but at 3PM they had a Poker Run and we jumped at that, as I was signing up one of their club members offerd to let me follow him since he knew where all the stops were (Way Cool I thought) (during the run, the temp gauge hit 115 outside) we ended up with 3 of a kind (5s) and didn't think much of it til later when we found out that was good enough for 2nd place and $50 bucks!! WOO HOO!! At 6PM they had creeper races (to hot still), At 7 open header contest and at 8Pm they had a slow drag contest we finished 2nd, But had a GREAT time!! Gates closed at 11PM..
Sunday Forcast: 107 deg Awards at 8AM (Bud had to leave Sat afternoon to get back for work Bummer!) so after we found out about the back up to the cone prize,, Dixie gets the ladies choice award for "Best Lady owned car" WOO HOOO way to go Dixie and it was her B-Day to boot!! So I would say we did pretty good for ourselves and the club.... We also met a guy with a 2008 SOM SS called Hippy Hot Rod, he parked across the row from us. Bob was way cool, and has some great friends too, He is on this board, he's out of AZ
That's all for now time for Sleep!!!ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Joe that sounds like a lot of weekend! Excellent pics The heat alone would take most people out. Congrats on taking the backing up award, that is something considering the lack of a view from an HHR! Good job representing SoCal.
We met a lot of new people this weekend too. That Hippie Hot Rod is decked out man. I hope it makes they to Tom's.

We had a great time and were real glad to make new friends. The trick is to stay inside during the hot part of the day and come out in the evening. The will have a new show on Jan 8, 9, and 10. The weather should be cooler and hope fully the show just as cool. Check the info at www.rivercruizers.com. We will have Dixie's HHR there and hope more HHRs will attend.
