The brake problem you are referring to is corrected with a new brake cylinoid. On cold startups I used to almost back into the street without being able to stop. If you have the problem and you have had your hhr ss for a while you know it. It is covered under by the dealership. Just be careful because they have to reflash your ecu and will delete/identify any tunes you may have. Also check the wiring job. Mine looked like a shade tree mechanic did it and I brought it back and made them fix it.

Even after the brake fix, you still will have issues. starting the car and immediately going will still give you crappy brakes. The "fix" just moved the brakes up a few notches on the list of things that need some pressure built. personally I neve go until the rpm's have settled down. about 30 seconds or so. there is also a patch for the brakes that tekes into account the GMTU. I kinda liken this car to a corvair.....very cool car with quirks, at least ours wont burst into flames from a rear-ender! I hope.

First gen Corvairs flipped over not caught fire. The Fiero was the one know for a Fire. The truth is neither were that bad but the press took it to both of them pretty hard.

As for the brake fix mine work just fine no matter how soon you put it into gear. I normally don't jump right on it but but I did try it a few timers after the repair and my Brakes are right asap I start the car.

I have two issues that have been a nuisiance since new:
#1. Cold starts and backing up poor brake performance. I have a 5 speed, and they added a booster pump, but it still does it. Fix appears to be to just let it idle a minute or two before backing down the drive. (Kinda hard for a wife to do) :)
#2. When the engine is heat soaked, like when waiting in drive thru line, or coming out of the store, when you first take off, on the first shift the rpm does not drop off when you let off the gas and press the clutch in. It is like the throttle is stuck for a few seconds before it drops. Pain in the butt, and makes you look like a novice driver. I have had it to the dealer 5 times with no fix. Gave up, but been driving it the last few days and remembered how it is. (wifes car). Anyone hear of a fix for this?

Only issue with mine so far was the tire air sensor kept going out and fixing it self. Took it to the dealership and they had to download a new program or something. It's been fine since then.
