I broke this thing removing it from the intercooler tube. What is the black thing with the number 80571 stamped on it.. Also how do I remove the braided line from the valve cover?
Not "the" PCV valve. It is the check valve for the fresh air inlet to the crankcase. It is part of the PCV system. It is part of the stainless hose, and no longer available. Here is my fix.
If you need to remove the other braided stainless hose, the one that goes down to the turbo, it cannot be removed with the fuel line tools Oldblue referenced above. You have to carefully cut the fitting off the valve cover. The other end at the turbo, is removable, there is a retaining plate bolted to the turbo. That line can also be replaced with the same size PCV hose that is in the link I gave.

I am now wondering if the oil that I am seeing on the garage floor and down the back side of the engine came from the bottom of the inter cooler tube (that connects from the turbo to the air cleaner. I found that the bottom worm gear clamp was not snugged up. So if there was oil in the bottom of the inter cooler tube, it may have leaked out when I backed into the garage. I would speculate that there is about 1/8 to 1/4 cup of oil spilled. Also, my driveway is at an incline. Once I get the air check valve replaced, I will do a compression test. Does this amount of oil sound normal and does my analogy make sense or am I being over hopeful?
I have a pretty significant oil leak on the back side (nearest firewall) of the engine. A shop recently changed the turbo. Reaching back and wiping the turbo with a paper towel does not show oil. It is really tight back there so I can not find where all the oil is coming from. It is dripping onto the lower control arm and runs down and drips off the ball joint. I’ll jack it up tomorrow and crawl under it tomorrow. Is there any thing in particular that i should look at?
I did not sleep well last night, I was about 90% certain that the oil was coming from the head gasket. I know that is weird, but not impossible. No coolant in oil and no oil in coolant. Today I jacked it up, removed the wheel and inner wheel well liner and inspected and hoped it was a front seal, which I have done many times on HHR’s. I actually keep a spare Fel-pro front crank shaft seal. Upon closer inspection the leak appears to be coming from the timing chain tensioner. I retorqued it to 55 ft lbs and the leak appeared to have stopped. Cleaned everything up and I’ll keep an eye on it.
