2008 SS has had problems, but I still love it

I had an LS until a year ago when it was totaled in an accident. It was the most reliable car I ever owned. After it was totaled I hadn't had the money to replace it. I wanted an SS in the worst way. Well a year later, that is what I got. I bought the SS two months ago, and it has had some problems. Mostly minor and not at all costly. However, the big one hit this week. The clutch pedal was binding and little sticky. I did believe that it was the clutch master cylinder, as I could feel the creeks and grinds right at the pedal. However, yesterday I came out from the store and the clutch went to the floor. Then I looked and fluid was dripping out between the engine and bell housing. So it's a new clutch, slave, pressure plate and master for me. I will take info videos of the process for those who have never replaced a clutch.

I only paid $6000 for this car and still think it was well worth it. There are no other major problems with it, other than the clutch. It has 135,000 on it. The engine is in good shape. I would normally replace the synchros in the tranny but the tranny was just replaced before I bought it. I found out however, that they did not replace the clutch when they did it. (I am not sure why anyone would not replace a clutch for a reman tranny install)

Bought mine with 138k, be sure to remove the valve cover and take a glance at the timing chain guides. They are not something you can "wait to fail" with. If they break, the timing can jump. If the timing jumps it's only a matter of time before valves crash into pistons. Don't want to scare you, hopefully yours are ok. When I removed the front cover the intake guide came out in 4 pieces. I just installed a brand new Gen 3, but I'm going to rebuild the gen 2.

Valve cover is pretty easy to get off and I'm told the gasket is reusable. It's pretty thick rubber. Good luck with your clutch and congrats on your upgrade!

If you want any pics from behind the front cover or with valve cover off shoot me a PM and I'll post them up here. There are some pics of my damage my "project overboard" thread.

Might be the clutch pedal mount. Not the clutch itself.

I understand that the sheet metal fatigues and there is no good solution.

Donbrew. He did state that he had fluid dripping from the bell housing area. Not sure if you missed that or not.
I would think he has a slave cylinder gone bad based on his details.

For some reason only the last paragraph was displayed when I replied.

I had a computer crash this weekend. Maybe that was it.
