Brake pad replacements

So i hit the 40000 km mark and I need a front brake job, no big deal. Except, when I asked for a quote from the dealership .... it came out to be 329 dollars just for the parts and 129 for labour Canadian funds. So all and all it will cost probably over 500 dollars after taxes. I knew my car would be more expensive to maintain than a regular HHR but, seriously!

Any good after market sport pads out there that will fit in our stock calipers that will be cheaper than this?

Does anyone know what type of material the pads are made from (not Brembos) for them to be so expensive?

EBC recomends the red for th SS if you speak to them.

Most cars on the street cab can use the green but with the SS they say the red will get Better wear an very little dust

Remember you get what you pay for.

Don't know what the material the OEM pads are, but they are crap IMO! They produce more dust than a sandstorm in a Saudi Desert!

That is probably the most exspensive route you can go, buying OEM pads there and having them do it. If you cannot do it yourself I would advise having a reputable local garage putting on better performance pads...

IMO, brake pads are up there in mechanical difficulty with oil changes (simple, but dirty). You should give it a close look to see how relatively easy it is before you give away all that money to a dealership.

I bought wagner ceramic, Can't remember the name , but the top of the line. Took 20 min to do a front brake job and was about $ 50.00 for the pads. 1 % of the brake dust from the orig. pads

$ 500.00 is insane.
