Brembo brake issue

I hopped in the SS today after it sat parked for almost 2 weeks. We got over 50" of the white stuff in a week, so I was in the 4wd. Anyway, after 20 miles of highway driving ( minimal brake usage, if at all ) I get a pulsing from the brakes. I saw that the rotors were rusted before I got in it, but didn't think it odd, since I see the phenomenon after any rain. A cursory inspection of the rotors showed uneven wear off of the rust. I checked the TSB thread, and found one about the inner pad and splash guard, but I think this may be directly related to the rust, or amount of it on the rotors. Has anyone else with the Brembos had this problem? BTW, my panel has just over 9800 mostly highway miles on it.

Thanks, Mike aka Padre.

you might try a couple hard braking cycles to see if it is just rust build up

I agree with crazy, if it had been mechanical you'd of known in the 1st block. my panel just turned 7000 mostly 3 or 400 mile trips at a time and mostly testing the limits, Enjoy

If you look even in the summer after you was your car the rotors will get surface rust on them. It is common to all cars. It will clean it's self off with a couple stops.

The Rotors are not 100% true in how they wear. THey will wear uneven with the lateral run out of the hub. For the most it does not effect things till it get too far out and can create uneven wear on the rotor and it can get a pulse or judder under braking.

It is often confused with so call warping.

Many FWD cars any more can and will suffer uneven rotor wear. When the hub is out of true it will let the rotor wobble from side to side and in time it will wear the rotor uneven. Highway driving often caused more wear.

Some cars like Honda and Acura it is so bad that they have to cut the rotors on the car to get them right. If not it will judder even worse.

In the summer, After a rain , Even with my SS in the garage overnite you can actualy hear the rust on the rotors scubing off within the 1st couple of stops, dos'nt seem to be a problem.

In the winter here I get it every morning.l Even the rear brakes make a little noise in the drive as I back out but it is gone after one solid stop.

Each of my cars with 4 wheel disc do this one is from 1985 so it is nothing new.

The rust is nothing new, the shudder after the 20+ highway miles was. The rotors are bare metal and subject to the chemical process. I jumped on them pretty hard on the way in this am, and it felt better. I'll see how they are going home. That won't be until late tonight since Verizon has declared a "service emergency", thereby forcing 12 hour days until further notice. Looks like more toys for the SS soon.

Since the pads rest against the rotor they deposit a thin layer especially if left to sit. Then there is the surface rust that accumulates on the exposed portion of the rotor.
Add the fact that the steel doesn't contain enough nickle and...... Add the fact that the brake pads are "soft" (IMHO) and do not clean the surface well without aggressive stops. (GM has to keep all customers happen aggressive pads are generally noisy-but work really well)

The previous suggestions to apply the brakes aggressively for a few stops usually cleans up the rotors and lessens the "pulsation". This should be a common practice after a vehicle has sat for more then a couple of days.
