Well the factory IC is known to have a weakness in the construction. i.e. the plastic end tanks. They have been known to crack. And don't bump into any of those concrete parking lot stops either.

mine blew, right on the hot side. i would seriously recommend upgrading if you are planning on upping the boost and if you run your car pretty hard, and as for voiding warranty. i am a technician at chevy and i see cars all the time with work done to them getting warranty work done, i like to think of it like this. if your aftermarket part is what is causing the problem than without a doubt it will void your warranty. realistically, GM says if you have any aftermarket parts they will block your warranty, but most dealerships don't care that much, just try and find one that is pretty cool, if you get a chance, talk to the tech working on your car. but be very nice to him and dont rush him. dont even ask when he will be done.

the downfall to the stock intercooler is the plastic endtanks.... they love to explode after some heavy back to back to back pulls. but depending on how much you plan to mod your HHR SS & what you intend on doing with it depends on if you'll need an upgraded intercooler. i'd highly recommend upgrading anyways. ZZPerformance makes a really nice one and the price is nice too.

stock bpv is perfectly fine, no need to upgrade to a Forge BPV or block it off for the addition of a rice vta bov.

what part of DE you from?

I live in Newark... I got the car for work/ fun.... I am going to get the GMTU. I do kinda wish the BOV was alittke more pronounced other than the barley audible whistle

You could take the lid off your airbox or buy an aftermarket intake to make the "blow off" sound more pronounced.

i'm in Newark too.

if you're only going with the GMTU, then the stock IC will be fine. just be nice to it and don't do a bunch of back to back runs.

i have an aftermarket hot side charge pipe (stock intake) and i'm able to hear the bpv just fine.
