OH NO! Don't open up that debate again.
To put it simply. The "difference" is a list of parts that is about 3 pages long.

Maitance cost are the same, Now the Repair cost can be more because of the added hardware and more expensive bits added to add power. Sorry not getting picky but there is a difference between the terms but I understand what you mean

The fact is Turbo 4 cylinder engines are going to be standard or optional in 80% of the cars made. Most will run trouble free for years but as with anything with added part. The more parts there are the more chance something could go wrong. Same thing could be said for 8 cylinder engines vs 4 or DOHC over Cam in Block too. Increase the part count and increase the small possibility of a failure.

Come on it is not just the sleeker bumper cover that makes mine go faster?

I was talking about this post.......SS HHRs have not been put on a weight reduction diet. They are all made with the same cheap plastic, and paper thin sheet metal.

This is not the cause of your problems.

Well of course. As long as you keep a good coat of wax on it.

Hold on. Still looking for the lid for that can of worms.

The HHR SS is and was built as a daily driver as most all performance cars are today.

The HHR SS is just an vehicle that got an engine that was more advanced at a time GM was out of money. It effected some of the parts that went into it and the lack of dealers knowing how to deal with it.

The engine today is updated and in the Malibu. Regal, Verano, ATS and will be in many more cars. We also now have the 1.4 Turbo in many GM cars to. Turbo engines are becoming the norm in many cars not just GM and there will be a little teething issues with all of them once they hit the market. It will be sorted out and life will go on.

The key thing is when you add more part more things can happen. That is the price of more HP and MPG.

Would never consider a non turbo HHR, dont like the look as much and the performance is terrible. My girl likes the look of SS, regardless I am paying for it. I have access to HPtuners Pro, If and when i get an HHR SS it will have over 300whp within days of owner ship! Keep it conservative of course like I said and upgrade the breakables/low quality stuff (cp's, intercooler,. and go with moog endlings/control arm bushings)
