omg another problem
The fact is Turbo 4 cylinder engines are going to be standard or optional in 80% of the cars made. Most will run trouble free for years but as with anything with added part. The more parts there are the more chance something could go wrong. Same thing could be said for 8 cylinder engines vs 4 or DOHC over Cam in Block too. Increase the part count and increase the small possibility of a failure.
This is not the cause of your problems.
The HHR SS is just an vehicle that got an engine that was more advanced at a time GM was out of money. It effected some of the parts that went into it and the lack of dealers knowing how to deal with it.
The engine today is updated and in the Malibu. Regal, Verano, ATS and will be in many more cars. We also now have the 1.4 Turbo in many GM cars to. Turbo engines are becoming the norm in many cars not just GM and there will be a little teething issues with all of them once they hit the market. It will be sorted out and life will go on.
The key thing is when you add more part more things can happen. That is the price of more HP and MPG.
stuff like this really scares me about getting an HHR SS for my fiance when her camry lease is up. Are these cars really that hit or miss? I mean I know what the chances are of plastic charge pipes and intercooler failing ive changed a few. But if its a car where im going to have bolt ons (intake, catless dp, HP tune 22 psi or so (conservative with ramp) I dont want to be worried about engine/transmission/turbo failing
