I thought I had lost my mind...LOL. Sorry.....didn't see this post already going

I watched it all day today and it ran 205-210 consistently but it would only bump 210 then immediately come back to 208. However, my fan is pretty much running all the time. Seems to click on at 196 so it's running ALL the time if that's the case. From reading here it shouldn't come on till 216???

Just took a long trip over the past 3 days and noticed an interesting pattern. If the temp was 25 degrees or less, my SS runs 205-210. If the temp was say 30-45 degrees, it ran at 199-205. And above 50 degrees, it ran the 194-198 I'm accustomed too. Maybe I just never noticed last winter. The SS is so backwards in a few ways. Runs hotter the colder it is and boost less the colder it is (I know why the boost change happens....the temperature issue boggles the mind though).

Glad I found this Thread
I just noticed the same pattern with my SS as listed above where the colder it is outside the warmer the car seems to run.
Temp outside was about 39 this morning so I watched my temp digital readout and sure enough just like described above the HHR ss seems to want to run hotter when its cooler outside.
Of course when its hotter out I have the ac on and the fan runs all the time.
My first thought was a sticking thermostat but after reading multiple threads about this between the HHR ss and the Cobalt SS they seem to run hotter (coolant temp wise) when it is cold out. When you would expect the opposite.
Guarantee when I drive home this afternoon it will be about 65-70 and it will probably not see over 200.

I've also noticed that when the heater is on it tends to run a bit hotter.

Mine too..always has..experimented one day turning heater on and off..seems like with heater on hot it runs hotter..suspected it was so the heater doesnt act like a second radiator and make it run cool..but that doesnt make sense because of the T stat..anyways..heater off, below 200..heater on, above 200...keeps the car toasty on those 'teen' days!

"jack".....

MAYBE because the A/C is not on, so the radiator fan is not running.

Noticed the same thing here on the "regular" HHR. Right now, night time temp's are comfortable so I drive with the window and sunroof fully open......no a/c. engine temps are normal at constant regular speeds but increase at traffic signals and slower traffic.

If I turn the a/c on, normal temps are 185-195.....under the same circumstances.
