Rear Bumper

Anyone notice that it burns the bumper? Not the part around the bumper, but actually above it? Thought it was dirt, but its actually really burning it. Mines silver for now, so you can really see it. Guess its time for either new exhaust, or a new style of bumper. lol

It's amazing.
I think it is an urgent inspection of the exhaust system (if I correctly translated). If the bumper is really burns / melts - you can get big problems. Until the fire.

It may not be burning that you see, its more likely just soot from the exhaust.

Direct Injection engines like the LNF in your SS will produce sooty exhaust at wide open throttle.

I'm sure an SS owner will chime in with what they use to remove the soot from the paint.

It is soot. If you watch the exhaust and have someone floor the pedal, you will see a small puff of dark smoke. After 7500 mile, mine is already discoloring. I'm sure laquer thinner would take it off but it is pretty harsh. If you find a less invasive chemical that will do the trick, let us know.

Correct Mike. That soot gets baked on there like concrete. If the OP is actually burning (or melting since it's abs plastic) then he's got other issues.
Yes, I clean mine pretty regular. No, I don't want to tell what I use, because the folks here would read me the riot act.

Well the guy across the hall from my office says he uses Westley's Bleach White whitewall tire cleaner on his Bentley with good results.

I've also heard of using brake cleaner(kinda harsh), or isopropyl alcohol(really harsh), to remove the soot from bumpers.

my buddy's old Prelude was bad about that too. very regular washing and a nice wax seemed to keep his pearl white clean. Don't let it sit on the paint too long.

Maybe a transparent film on the bumper around the hole?
If carefully done, the appearance will not be spoiled. It is easy to clean.

Hrm, Ill take a better look and see. It wouldnt come off, even with some Airplane stripper. Maybe I should let it stay on a little bit longer. lol 10 seconds isnt alot, but then again, it might only need 12. :P thanks though, was really thinking it was the bumper burning
