When the engine light comes on...
Engines sometimes just let go. I have seen all brands to it. This is not a common thing but a part of life.
Anything made by man can fail and will at some point.
I like MGR would like to know what the Failure was.
Which light was on the Engine light in ref or the Check Engine light in yellow.
If it was the red light the car needs shut down if it was the Check engine light it should have been in a limp mode and not damaged the engine.

I don't really think a properly functioning engine is necessary to be Featured HHR of the month. But it is necessary for driving it to the picture-taking locations!!
lol haha. At least you don't seem too bent out of shape about it. The bottom line is you basically just got a "dud" of a motor. They'll take care of it and chances are you won't have any more trouble with the motor. Some people by now would be bashing the HHR and telling us how unreliable it is and how Chevy's suck and blah blah blah. I love my HHR and if my motor was to blow tomorrow, I'd just go out and get another HHR.
The car has had to sit for couple weeks due to the "heavy engine" mechanic having a few cars in front of me. I told the service writter, and mechanic that there will be no rebuilt anything put in. Any bottom end knocking will usually result in metal shavings everywhere. Further it ONLY HAS 3,000 MILES!!! I bought a NEW car not a rebuilt car. That they would have to replace the turbo as well cause it shares the metal "enriched" motor oil.
So after such a wait... the results are....
Blown piston ring on a cylinder. That was causing the knock and engine light.
Ok... well this is one way you don't want to see your "NEW" car.

There's something missing here!

Oh yeah, I FOUND IT!

Still, something is missing... it gets the power to the wheels... has gears... OH SNAP HERE IT IS

Where's the round dilly that puts them together... the.... oh this!

So at the end of the day, the new motor has been approved and ordered. It should take a week to get that delievered and another few days for install. I can't say I'm happy but I am pleased they are doing the "right thing".
Sorry I have been MIA... on top of all this. I have had only 2 days off in the last 6 weeks and with nearly 80hrs last week (7days) and 65hrs this week in 5 days. I've been busy...

Well the old motor torn down a bit

The new motor almost ready to go in.

From the car rolling onto the heavy motor guys lift to rolling out with the new motor. 1 week.
It's so good to have my car back.
Hey I told them simply...
It's got 3k on it. I don't want to hear the word rebuilt! I paid allot of good money for a NEW car, so keep it that way.
Had it been a higher milage it would have been a new piston, rings, sleeve, crank, etc... basically they would have rebuilt the whole motor.
Something else of interest.
GM Tech services said they had been having problems with cylinder #3 and piston rings. basically the same thing mine is doing but mine was #2. So obviously something they knew about.
