Thinking is a direct result of not knowing.

We call our HHR - 'RAD'. How much thought went into that? We looked at the three letters on the license plate.....

Since I guess I contributed to the off-topic stuff, let me get back on target. I like how the 20" wheels look on an HHR. It'd be entirely appropriate to use them if you like how it looks and are willing to safely deal with any drawbacks. I say give it a try if you like and let us know how it goes. If you like it/want it, that's good enough. As for my thoughts, I think I'm fine with the 18s that came with my car. I think they are close enough for me and they look good enough that I cannot justify the effort, cost, or potential drawbacks to get 20s on there.

OK, I'm agreeing with Breadfan that 20's look good on an HHR if they're nice looking wheels to begin with and if they are fitted up properly and safely.

There is an HHR panel in Charlotte on 20" rims that is as sharp as all get out, but its done up right, and unfortunately the dang thing is as elusive as all get out. Every time I see it, we're heading in opposite directions, and the best my "Smart Phone" camera can manage is a blur and a lovely shot of my "A" pillar from inside. (Someday I'll find that sucker parked somewhere and get some proper shots of it to post, and the owner will get a business card inviting him to join up here)

What I don't see the logic in, is having a set of random rims with the wrong bolt pattern and going through all the attendant BS to find an adapter/spacer set....and then finding that they won't look or work right.

Like I said before, ditch them and use the money to buy something that'll fit correctly without all the messing around.

What I find interesting, is not having heard from any of the members who are running 20's.. & there are at least several TIKO.

Just an observation.. Maybe that is a message in itself, IDK ?

The post asking what's the final word on 20s can't be answered IMO. I ride them in the summer, looks are killer, rides OK but with less sidewall you have less forgiveness with rough roads and parking curbs. That's true with any low profile wheel setup. I share the same concern of other members using adapters to get those 5X100 to fit. It's not a good idea but once again that's IMO..

Frank..thanks for the response.... thats along the lines of what Im looking for...

I wanted someone to give more tech advice about SPECIFIC issues..

"the adapters can cause..."
"braking may be affected by..."
"fitment may come with..."
"Ive used them, seen an issue with..."

instead I got mostly...

"uh, they look dumb I think" "go ahead if u like a donk"....lol

Im not familiar with issues with use of adapters...I have several friends who use or have used them for wheels..just not on 20" wheels on HHR's...

but I understand where some of that comes from....

....still think naming your car is ridiculous though....lol

fwiw: Most adapters (I have handled) will be about as thick as a regular lug nut, to be flush when tightened.
Which makes the rims negatively off-set outward by that much.

this likely can increase the outward load on the wheel bearings. & possibly clearance issues.. Hard to say for sure with no off-set specs for the 5 x 100 rims.

20's are gonna be heavier than stockers. So braking can be a lil less powerful..Depends on weight differences..
