08 SS need tires

The stock Michelin tires finally need to be replaced which I am glad because they suck. I found these and thought I would run it past you guys

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

General G-MAX AS-03
245 40/18

One thing that concerned me is the rim size recommendation. They say these should be used on a 8-9.5" width rim and I thought the stock SS Rims were 7.75

I also was hoping to get something closer to a 60,000 mile treadwear rating but that might be a lost hope with a performance tire.

If anyone has any other recommendations in a 245 size tire I am open to suggestions and I would love to order a set soon. My stepfather is a mechanic and manages a shop so he can install and balance them for me.

Thank You in advance

I wore out a set of those, go over 40k , great tire. I replaced them with 235x45x18 Michelin pilot sport as3 and they are even better.

The Michelin's are considerably more expensive for the same size tire it seems.

I was also looking at a set of Nitto tires which seem to offer similar performance but a longer treadwear rating

Anyone know the rim width of the HHR SS stock wheels? I have read they are 7.5, 7.75 and 8 so which are they.

If they are less than 8 should I worry if the tires I am looking at recommend a wheel width between 8-9.5?

Stock SS rims are 7.5".
Tried to take a picture of the stamping for you but it didn't focus.

So if the 245 size tires I am looking at are recommending a 8-9.5 width rim should I be concerned?? I have heard people putting up to 265 size tires on the stock rims. I just want to make sure if I order tires online that they will fit.

OK I have narrowed it down to these
http://www.tirebuyer.com/tires/nitto.../p/tv154000378

or

these were recommended by a friend

Not sure if the continentals are worth the extra price though

The gmax run narrow I had 255x40 on 8" wheels. I tried DWS in the past and got a little hydroplaning in deep water.

Those Nitto's look interesting but I'm sure 245x45 wont work.

I paid 450.00 out the door for the Michelin, how could I say no.........

Well the two narrowed down choices both state they will fit on a 7.5 wide rim. Why do you say they will not work?

I think it will be too tall . I have done 235x45x18 on the stock wheels and there wasn't room for a credit card between the spring perch and the tire. But all manufacturers make them a tad different the only way to say for sure is to mount one and slip it on to see.
