They are called "Wheel Facias" . . . they describe them pretty well on the Chevy web site.
You get the look of an alloy wheel without the price tag.
The steel wheel is designed to be hidden, and the platic wheel cover completely conceals the steel wheel.
Granted I do not like the looks of the above wheel, but they are others that are very nice looking and convincing . . . the Saturn Aura wheel facia is damned cool. The G6 isn't bad. The 3/4 ton dually are sharp.
With how brutal IL winters are on alloy wheels, I honestly like the idea of wheel facias, for a DD winter wheel.
We may be a small faction of people that demand alloy wheels, but there are a lot of people who don't want them, and there are a ton of people who want to change their wheels, so why pay for alloy wheels when you don't want them.

If they are like the Dodge ones the plastic part on the front is attached to the steel wheel. When you take off the wheel & tire it comes off as all one piece, nt like a hub cap. Ford did the same thing in the 80's on the T-birds, Cougar & other models.

I like the look of that one. What size is it? Would it work on a 2006 LS?

Don't get to excited about flex fuel. Here is what the EST mileage is for 2009.
2.2L Gasoline 32mpg
E85 23mpg
2.4L Gasoline 30 mpg
E85 22mpg
Plus a loss in power.
You usually don't get something for nothing.....

Some years back I was in the tire business, and unless things have changed, the biggest problem with steel wheels was they were not consistantly round or true. Thats why I still prefer machined wheels.
My current vehicle runs perfectly smooth at all speeds with Aluminum wheels, Michelin tires, balanced correctly and pattern hand tourqed at 100lbs.
