Can TPM sensors be fitted to aftermarket wheels?

If this has been covered before, forgive the new guy. I tried searching around but came up empty.

I have an '08 with the now standard TPM system. If I wanted to switch to aftermaket rims, can I install four new TPM sensors on the new rims so the system will still work?

Yes if they will fit the rims and someone reprograms them afterward.

If the alternative is to just live without them, will this make my computer go nuts and send me snotty OnStar emails about my failing tire pressure sensing system?

What to you guys with aftermarket wheels do?
