I put the Blizzaks on the original 16" aluminum wheels that came with the car. For summer I bought new 16" aluminum wheels (American Racing Casino), which by the way, only cost $104 each at Dunn Tire.

The Tire Rack has some good deals. If you go to 15" Bridgestone Blizzaks for your HHR (which they recommend), then not only are the tires cheaper, but they have steel wheels for only $24 each for a total price of $428 for wheels AND tires.

The steel wheels for a 16" tire are $55 each. The cheapest alloy wheels in 16" size are $94 each.

That seems like a very good deal, but I don't think the 15" wheels will fit on a SS (even without the brembos?
Anyone with an SS put on 15"s?

I bought an extra set of 17" rims and had HANKOOK snow tires put on (same spec as regular tires). Need them here a lot in the winter time. Reputed to be the best snow grip available and from what I have found over the past two years I agree. Got caught in a white out bliuzzard last year and I was one of a hand ful of cars on the highway that made it through (lots of SUV's in the ditch) A bit pricey but worth it (rims and tires $1100). They are real sticky on dry asphalt too.

They ran great!
I installed the Goodyear Assurance triple-treads and although they are working well in snow and ice they are without a doubt the most irritating tires on dry pavement I've ever driven. The ride feels like they're made of cast iron. I think if I had it to do all over again I'd just buy a set of snows on separate rims and keep a more comfy riding tire on from April to October.

How much air do you have in them?

My are like a smooth Cadillac vs the Pilots I took off.

Keep in mind too they are a little more performanced based so they will have a little stiffer side wall.

If you wanted smoother ride with the same traction the Assurance Comfort Treds are what you should have put in. They are made for smoother rides of a less performace based cars.

I got Avalanche tires on 16" steelies. Good thing I put them on yesterday. We are getting snow right now. of course I had to try them out . They work great and I'm happy with them. Great traction and excellent stopping.

I know all that. I wanted them for the triple tread technology for winter driving. Comfortable driving is foreign to the HHR anyway so I got what I wanted to get me through the winter.
