How safe are spacers? 3mm is the size would u use them?
I have never used spacers on any of my cars and the thought if using them makes me uncomfortable. I am obsessing over this. I have a good deal on snow tires mounted on redline wheels but they won't clear the brembos unless u use spacers. 3 mm is required. Am I making more of this then it's worth. Is it that big of a deal? Any experiences or opinions are more than welcome.
Thanks

3mm spacers can be used with the stock wheel studs and they would require the same precautions as any spacer and alloy wheel combination. Proper torque on the lug nuts is essential for safely using spacers, and the torque must be checked on a regular basis to make sure the lug nuts haven't backed off.
Make sure you get good quality spacers, cheap ones are asking for trouble. When you install the spacers and wheels, retorque the lugs after 25 miles, then after 100 miles, and then again after 250 miles or so. Get into the habit of checking the torque on the lugs every so often and you have nothing to worry about using spacers.

I have extended studs and spacers from H&R, I retorque them a couple times a week and have never found anything amiss. I was a little surprised how many dollars it took to get it done properly. My question is,... will my stock wheels with 225x45 fit with the spacers on so I can get my summer tread back on ???

This is what you call a loaded question Sam, yes they will fit, but running the stock rims with the spacers will goof up the offset and place extra strain on the hub bearings possibly leading to premature failure. So I'd remove the spacers when changing rims around, even though it will be a mild pain in the butt, its less painful than replacing the hubs all the way around.

I have 5mm on mine, not a problem, but thats the most you should run without extended studs/lugs. They are machined aluminum, with specicific hub bore and bolt circle. I ran universal 1/8" spacers for a while but I feel much better with these.
I just bought Dr-33's no spacers. I just could not bring myself to use them. I don't want to have to keep second guessing the lug torque on my wheels. I am sure it's safe and I am not going to knock anyone who uses them, but spacers are just not for me.
