Sounded like I'd put a rod through the block of the Beretta, also shredded the fender liner, the things you hit on a rainy two lane blacktop.....

 

I didn't realize how much a minefield of debris is on the road. You can see the strangest things scattered on the side of the roads sometimes. I guess there is no way you can avoid everything, especially small screws and nails you can't even see. You just need to check your tires regularly and listen for that "clack, clack" sound when something is stuck.
