Need New Tire Suggestion...
Since my HHR is my daily driver and I had set #3 installed, some Cooper Tires. All the previous tires were a low rolling resistance tires. My average mpg was a tad over 31 mpg. The Coopers were not low rolling tires and my average MPG is a tad under 28 mpg. The Coopers were rated for good wet traction and in Florida we do get rain. Read the tire reviews and determine how you drive as to needing good wet traction, snow traction or performance.
Since my SS is mainly a DD, and I don't put a lot of miles on it in a year, wear for me was not a issue, handling and traction were.
Also these Hankook V-12's are [read my lips] Summer only tires, that are not meant to be driven in freezing temps and snow[which is not a issue in N. Cal.]. So far I'm more than happy with the handling and the traction, and being fairly sticky, wear is to be expected.
I do some Goodguys autocross, four times a year, and so very sprited driving, most of the time, so these tires suit me just fine. "Moon"

Got a call from Tire Rack yesterday, the Conti Extreme Contact DWS tires I ordered are now not available until sometime In January 2013. Can't wait that long, so I ordered the General G-Max 3 A/S instead. I'll have those installed next week.
I've decided to go with bfg kdw's. They have a wicked tread pattern and overall I've heard nothing but great things about them. I'm going to hold off until February or march to get them...want to pay a few things off first and get a little more wear out of my firehawks.
Time for new tires (40k) - cursing the P215/50R17 - this is my wife's car, after all.
Went to Costco today to get Bridgestone Serenity Plus - the guy told me I was putting high performance tires on my little car, and talked me into Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 for better ride and tread life. They will take a few days to order. $650 total, includes everything, including their lifetime balancing, rotations, & flat repairs.
Of course I came home and researched some more - the Serenity Plus have a higher treadlife, better ride comfort, and better wet/dry handling! Total is $703.
I'm going to cancel the Ecopia, and go back to the Serenity Plus. I could save $50 buying from tirerack, but then have to deal with the 3rd party shop...doesn't seem worth it...
Now where are the $550 out the door deals for these darn 50 series 17 inch tires?
