A 235 should fit with no problem width wise. You can compare your stock to those here....

Tires

245-45-18 tires will NOT fit on the front. It hits the strut hard. On the rear you can trim a whole bunch out of the plastic fender wells to make it work.
I reccomend using the 225-45-18 tires all the way around.

Were the spacers required with the smaller tire?

NOT TRUE!

A 285/70 is wider than a 225/50 by 60mm...total width
and a 215/75 is taller than a 275/40 total height

50 has nothing to do with width and 245 has nothing to do with how tall a tire is other than determining the height of sidewall depending on second nomber

your doin it backwards man...
i`m pretty sure on that

Solstice wheels ar 18"

Solstice wheels are 18" I do not know if the 235-40-17?(18"?) will fit. I know the 245-45-18 will definatly not fit as it hits hard on the strut. Too tall and too wide. The 225-45-18's fit with the spacers but there still is not much room from strut and brake calipers. Hits calipers with out spacers.

Thanks for the info, guess I will pass on these, If I have to buy tires, might as well just buy new rims with the correct backspacing so I can run a 235 without clearance issues. I know several are indeed running 234/40 18's with no problems. Guess the RWD offset of the Solstice just thows it off that much. But don't need tires yet, so I just keep my eyes open for now....

I run 225-45-18's with no problems and mine is lowered. The biggest issue is the offset when dealing with the HHR, and as Curly said, the front is the hardest place because of the struts.

Will the 245 fit on an HHR that is not lowered or is there still clearance issues with the strut?

By the way, how does the HHR ride with 3rd gen Goldlines as compared to stock?
