Tire Pressure Monitor - Don't Want
#41
My mechanic told me that replacement valve stems for the tire pressure sensors are quite expensive and that the tools needed to reset the TP guage are different for US cars, Japanese cars, european cars etc. The TP sensor was a mandated "option" becaues of the Firestone tire/Ford fiasco and that most American drivers refuse to check tire pressure, oil or any other routine maintenance items and do not know how to drive a car, but only know how to steer a car.

I believe you are correct that the 07 did not have the system and you should ask for your money back if that is what they $27 charge was for.
The system is not good for nothing as it may keep some idiot fro having a low tire fail and blow then crashing into you. I see so many low tires I am shocked more do not blow out.
The key to the whole thing is learn how it works and what is need and they are pretty seamless in how it works.
The key is being informed.
Might want to check the charge though as it may just be $27 to change the regular stem as that may include the charge for dismount and balance.
I used to do them and marked the tire so I did not mess up the balance and not have to charge the guy for a new balance but most places don't.

Or, was it one of those "sometime in 2007" we changed things? Like depends on the exact production date maybe, don't know. I have a vague remembrance of options and dates and geography. I do know that in 2008 it was dam near impossible to get a tire store to reset my TPMS on the 2008 car, they all said "drive your PTCruiser around the block and it will reset itself".
