Tire Recommendations? (SS)

Looks like I will get about 30,000 out of my OEM tires. I have generally been happy with these tires, but willing to look at other options that might be a bit stickier without sacrificing too much in tread life. Must be made in North America. Harder to find in this size than I expected. Thanks for any suggestions.

I agree, I think that will make it very hard to find a good set. AFAIK, you will be looking at Cooper and Goodyear. My experience with Goodyear are hard tires. Heard mixed reviews on Cooper - but they are less enthusiastic in their driving. Pirelli and BF Goodrich have always been kind to me with reasonable tread life and good grip.

The Michelins on my wife's BMW, the factory Michelins on the SS, The Dunlops that came off the BMW, The Goodyears I just bought for my truck, the Goodyears on my StingRay, and the Coopers on my old RR are all "made in USA", so I hold out hope (like I said, the OEM are pretty good).

goodyear assurance comfort tread. awesome all season tire. they are 1 notch below the aquatread. i had them installed on wife's pontiac vibe. handles like a different car. very quiet & great response. the original continentals were german garbage. they were horrible in wet & snow & only lasted 30k miles.

Anyone know approximately what it will cost to replace the tires with the same OEMs? I'm at 17K miles and I figure I will also get 30-35K miles out of the originals.

They are available on tire rack for $139+ shipping. Other highly rated all-season tires in that size include Dunlop SP Sport signature and Goodyear Eagle GT(~$122-130 ea). Both are made in the US according to the spec sheet. There are tons and tons of summer tires available too; for the OP In CA, you might not need all-season tires.

My brother owns a tire shop and is steering me to the BFGs - either the g-Force Sports or the KDW 2s. Awesome performance both dry and wet (only conditions I'll ever encounter in my part of CA) and they're made in the USA! I've run BFGs on all my Mustangs for years and have been very happy with them. He says the OEM Michelins on the SS are more biased toward ride and not performance.

The stock OE Pilots are crap in the rain.

I have had several sets of BFG and the last set were only good for 25K miles.
But all TA's are not the same. Mine were OE Comp TA's on my GTP Comp G .

I usally have good service with Goodyears as I have family their and can find out what ones are the best to buy. I also get a discount on top of my price at the Tire Rack.

Dunlops are also a good buy as they are the same as the Goodyears and you can often get a better price. Goodyear owns them.

We should get more options on brands as this 18 inch size will be more available in time.
