so i put on my winters, but i have never had winters before, always all seasons.
as i was driving to and from work yesterday, it feels very different, feels as if the steering is loose or very sensitive, a little movement to the right or left with the steering wheel and the car is doing a hard turn almost, hard to keep the thing going straight im constantly swerving around...is this normal? is it because the rubber is softer than the all season tires?

You didn't say what winter tires or size you have, but I know my General Altimax Arctic (205/60R-16) gave me the exact symptoms that you describe. Feels like easy drift/wander, combined with super easy steering. I got used to it in a week or so, but was disconcerting at first. My summer tires are some cheapo 215/50R-17's, and the steering feels more normal, not light, but not heavy, and the drift or wander is gone.
