Upgrade to 18" require alignment?

Tire shop said i'll probably need an alignment after they install my 18x8wheels and new tires. Is this usual? I didn't expect it since the suspension isn't being changed

Thx

not unless you are changing the od of the stock tire size. ex....if the stock tire size is 26" tall and the new setup yields you a 25.9 you are fine if you change the overall od greater than 3% i think they say then an alignment is needed. now they are probably recommending an alignment if you are putting new tires on just to make sure that you get the maximum life out of the tires.

well it's .66in taller. from 25.31 up to 25.97 so i guess we shall see. I just hope i don't spend the extra $75. I guess when you're spending about $1300 total what's the difference lol

Your wheel and tire change will absolutely not change alignment.

But, if it was already off.......

although very slight it could change your camber if the new setup is significantly taller/shorter than stock

X 2, no extra money for them telling the truth..

But if you are adding new tires, alignment certainly can't hurt...(or shouldn't)...

As a precaution to keep from chewing up the new tires or starting some kind of odd wear pattern it would be a good investment. I have my critters aligned every six months, or at least put on the rack and checked, its cheaper than tires and I'm obsessive about keeping things right on spec.

My shop sets it up, if it on, no charge, if it's off, 75.00, it's on now. Either way you know it's right. 425 a corner is some pretty good shopping, I wouldn't be in a hurry to save 75.00 and then need a new tire, not aligning when they suggest it isn't covered by road hazard.
