Angry waited just a bit too long...

driving home after work and 1/2 block before I got home, the steering started making a strange noise like something was rubbing. Turns out the 1/2 worn out tires on my car were no longer 1/2 worn out. I knew they were shot when I replaced the LCa's, but they still had a bit of tread and I kind of forgot about them. This morning in 82 degrees (at 9 a.m.) put the snow tires back on as they seem to be holding air better than the banana skins that were on the car. Guess I will be ordering some new shoes for the HHR. All this driving back and forth to work and working overtime is tough on me and the vehicles. No time to work on them. had to put the snows on until the new ones show up.

not that I'm proud of it, but a recent episode...
Now I also have a Mazda, summer came and I needed to put new shoes on it.
Summer tires came with the Mazda, but upon careful inspection, it turned out that 2 wheels died to death, and 2 more, although they were suitable for driving, were ready for a surprise at any moment.
At another time, I would have bought a set (new or used), but April 2022 is in the yard. War, rising prices, disruption of supply chains - a complete mess with prices, some dealers withhold goods, some have charged a thermonuclear price.
In general, I thought that I would be a complete idiot if I paid big money for ordinary tires.
The issue was resolved at the nearest garbage dump, where fate provided me with a set of 2020 tires with 3-4 mm tread remaining. They were slightly larger than the manufacturer recommends. But a good brand and the cost of 0 rub.00 kop.
I ride it still, have no problems with the brakes. Well, prices have normalized during this time. I'll buy myself a normal set for next summer.

Not on this car, but back in the day I had to run "may-pops" from the used tire place... I knew the guy, it was cheap, we would mount and balance them after he closed for a six pack of beer... I was burning up a bunch of tires back then. ...

Happy you rescued some tread that would have gone to waste. Not very green to waste tire life. Out here, landfilling tires is not permitted. Heavy truck tires might be retreaded. Some tires are ground up for various products. They even use it for part of some aggregates for paving roads.

We should standardize so there are fewer tire sizes. That would make a used tire market more realistic.

we have it all too..
including a ban on dumping tires in a landfill - but the severity of some Russian laws is offset by the optionality of their implementation, in our society it is not customary to hand over neighbors to the police or authorities.
The market for used tires exists and is quite developed. Of course, these are private ads on social networks, there are legal and semi-legal offices for buying used tires.
At one time, it even happened that used tires were bought up in Europe or Japan (dismantled by order of insurers) and imported into Russia. I myself have used this method many times
