Looks like I'll squeeze about 30K miles from the Eagles. Had them rotated last week and they are down to about 4/32 @ the current 25K miles on them. Needless to say, will need new tires soon. Don't want to drop the $900+ on these again as I don't need a Z rated tire and as you can tell with the miles I've gotten on the Eagle GT's, I'm not hard on them. So I'm looking into some less expensive options in a 235/40R18 size.

When I bought the Cobalt wheels, they had a set of well used Nexen 5000's on them and I got about 17K miles on them before they came off. So I've been thinking of them again since I do have some experience with them, I can get them locally at Pep Boys. Price seems to be around $500-$600. But also looked at the Kumho Ecsta AST from Discount Tire (who I've dealt with my last 2 sets of new tires for the HHR and wifes MPV). Price on these is also around $500-$600 installed. I've never ran Kumho's before and don't really know much about them. I want something I can get more miles on, these GT's are less than 2 years old and would like something that will last 3-4 years with my average of 15K+ miles per year driving.

I though about the DWS's, but again, those are $900+ a set installed. Looking for a decent tire and a lower cost.

Thoughts/suggestions? I'm in the Atlanta area, so very rarely see any snow. And I usually telework those days...lol

There are members here running Nexens, & are happy (So I've been told in PMs')...

I opted for these 225/50/17 Sumitomo HTR A/S PO1 (W)... Too new to give any long term report.. But loving the improvements they added already..

 

I ran Sumitomo's on a past car and liked them, sold it before I wore them out, but on that car, I wasn't easy on them either....lol

Been debating on ordering them online and them having them installed, or just finding a place to handle all of it for warranty. I've still got a few months so I'll keep digging.

 

Might wanna try & find a touring tire, for extended wear life.. Not sure if they make em in 18"s ??

My 17"s are warrantied for 5yrs or 40K, But I don't put tons of miles on..So I went for a stickier tire.. MAJOR Improvement....

I have been dealing thru Tire Rack for decades. Had a problem w/some dunlops long ago (tread separating). The Rack said go to Sears & have em verify.. & I got better tires that were on sale & left with a several bucks refunded..

Locally, my Mom & Pop Tire Shop has a Road Force Balancer, & only charges me $10. a tire to mount & balance (life-time balance, & rotations) & I can watch everything...

They say timing is everything. And this time I was literally a day short... Was browing Craigslist and someone south of Atlanta has a set of 225/40R18 N3000's for $200. Stated he bought them and had fitment issues and took off a week later. The pics they definatly looked brand new, still had all the lines painted on the tread. Smaller than I wanted and didn't want another Z rated tire, but for $200. Of course they were sold yesterday...lol

I like the sticker also, but with the Eagles down this low in less than 2 years, got to find something better. It's hard to find a high mileage tire in an 18".

 

I was just having a look around the internet and was pretty surprised to see that tires in the 18 inch size are much more limited. I was going to recommend a set of Goodyear Assurance Tripletreds but it doesn't look like your size is available. I like my Tripletreds.

I believe that the Pirello P-Zeros are pretty decent tires but I'm not really all that familiar with the different levels of P-Zero they have (seems like a pretty large price range.)

 

Solman- That would have been a smoking deal for those N3000 tires.

Bummer you missed that boat.. I believe Wally World deals with Nexen, (least they do here & good prices), might be worth a price check in your size. fwiw..

Yea, never gave much thought about hi-mileage 18's..

Guess I'll stick with my tiny 17's...
