Winter Tires

yes i just brought that up...summer just ended but unfortunately we have to accept the fact that winter IS coming anyways, this is going to be the first winter since buying the HHR and was wondering about winter tires. I have never had winter tires on a vehicle before but i was told that this car would benefit from them considering the length of my drive also. So any suggestions on tires? what to look for? any places to get them cheap? Im going to be looking at kijiji from time-to-time. I still have the black steelies so all i need is tires. I hear the Michelin Xice are good..

I dont have any suggestions other than to make sure you have tread on whatever you use(obviously).

my tires from the factory on my SS were ok in the snow but not great. typically fwd cars do ok in the snow with all the weight over the power tires.

Winter tires make a big difference with the HHR.

on this forum a lot of threads on this subject.
But that you do not waste time ..

Bridgestone Blizak not spike.

Ideal balance between price and quality. For Ontario - what the doctor ordered..

do not claim to absolute truth

im running hankook ipikes, seem good in snow and were much cheaper than my wifes michelin x-ice. If you drive in snow, chunky tread is better. The x-ice have more lateral sipes for driving on ice and plowed roads, not chunky tread blocks. Check out simply tire if you are in toronto.

I do about 85kms a day mostly highway from Brampton to Toronto for work. Ive been looking at the Michelin Alpines too, the Blizzaks and the Ipikes.. I used to work at Canadian Tire and the Ipikes were a popular tire due to the cheap price but wasnt too familiar with the quality. Im also liking the General Tires - Altimax..gota hit up Costco soon too and see what they have...what kind of tread pattern would be best for a 50/50 of city and highway?

Winter tires will help any car. I have used Blizzaks for the past 3 winters. I used Blizzaks on my previous car(1987 Fiero) and highly recommend them. Whatever brand you choose will be better than an all season tire in the ice and snow.

I use General Tire Altimax Artic on my SS in the winter and they are amazing.

Ride nice n soft, very quiet, and great traction (I'll admit it wasn't in a ton of snow!)

I liked them so much in fact, I went with General Tire for my summer tires as well (dif style obviously)

been running the same-they work very well, I've been in some pretty deep stuff too. Very reasonable price point too.
