FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY!!

Radar detectors aren't much help here in the Miami area. FHP likes to use heicopters/overpasses, using stopwatches by timing vehicles as they cross certain road markers. I know from first hand on this. Years ago, I got stopped for doing 85 in a 55. Trooper seemed to come from nowhere. When handing me the citation, he looked and seen the radar detector and told me that the reason it didn't alert me was cause he was on the overpass with a stopwatch.

Some cops like to leave their gun off and when they pull the trigger.... They got ya that fast!! You can only hope you catch it way before you get there.. Remember the false beeps you seem to hear, Thats another person getting caught and then they shut off the detector right away to hide again.

Nebraska State Patrol used Vascar "timing system" a while back and I laughed when radar detectors came out that could "detect" that, How do they detect a stopwatch "Vascar!".

I am glad that North West Arkansas is not up with the times. If we ever get helicopter cops I will have to slow down. Thanks for the advice JX3

Getting out of a ticket

I have found the most effective way of getting out of a ticket is not to do anything that would warrant recieveing one in the first place.

Drive safe! However, if you gat caught driving not so safely , I found this thread of a message board very informative.

You have a right to challenge the calibration of a radar gun.

Yup there is no way to beat VASCAR. You guys also left out instant-on and laser, radar detectors are practicaly useless against either. Don't forget if your driving though Virgina, Washington DC, or Canada to remove your radar detector from sight and don't use it because they are illegal and the police use VG-2 and Spectre to catch you using it. I've only had problems in Canada but the police officer was nice and made me remove the detector without giving me a ticket. There is also the most used method of detecting speeding, pacing your car so they don't ever have to use radar or laser. I used to swear by a radar detector but over the years I've realized that they are pretty useless and have gotten speeding tickets even while using a top of the line detector. Your eyes are a better detection device than any radar detector.

alot of patrols in those states where they are illegal will follow you pretty far behind,,, throw on the radar gun and see up ahead who hit their brakes. i used to just let go of the throttle or pedal and slow down to less than 5 above.

it is very rare that patrols will ticket you for less than 5 above the speed limit so just relax and enjoy the drive and only drive fast where there are no patrol officers.
