How To Remove Bumper Cover and Bumper Bar

Just another how to on removing the rear bumper cover, and metal bumper bar. Had to replace mine. As always re-assembly is the opposite of removal. Hope it helps someone out.

First unscrew the turn signal lens. Its droops out from the top. Then press the clips here and pull apart. Tuck wire inside.

Next undo the four clips under each fender well. The three outer clips are just the kind where you use a door panel removal tool or screwdriver and pliers. The inner one you have to pry up the middle of the clip and remove it. Then pry up and remove the rest. It's like a push in clip with a retainer ring. Next up in the corner by the edge of the bumper is one 7mm bolt to remove. Pull back on the fender well to see it.

Undo this clip and one about a foot or so apart under the center of the bumper cover.

This one also.

Undo the two T-27 torx bolts on the corners. You get to these by lifting the hatch.

Next the cover will pop off towards you. Best with two people. May have to jiggle it around a little to get it loose. Held on by clips. Oce that is off you will see the actual bumper beam. There are four 13mm bolts inside the four holes as you are standing behind the car looking at it. Unbolt and remove.

Donbrew or 843, whoever enlarged my pics a big thank you. I used the direct image link for the copy and paste. Guess that was wrong. Lol.

Oldblue, it really was no pain at all. Just a few tools, panel removal tools, 7mm, 13mm, and t27 torx bit. Oh and you will need a 6 inch extension for the bumper bar. Bolts are mounted inside bar, but very visible through access holes. Total time for swap, 2 hrs. Tops.

This is the 7mm bolt.

Here is a better idea of how the clips are on the bumper cover. I found it to work best if I used one hand on the outside of the cover, the other hand on the inside of the cover to apply even pressure while popping it out.

I'm the phantom image enlarger, once you do it a few hundred times a year, it's almost a reflex action.

When you use the "Insert Image" button on the Advanced Post toolbar, that little dealio that resembles a postcard, make sure you backspace over the extraneous "http://" that it automatically tries to add to any image file.

So when you paste the Direct Image Link, it should look like this for example.....

https://www.chevyhhr.net/gallery/fil...donor_clip.jpg

Which will give you this in your post...

Ta da!
