Here is the top view of the installed ball with warning labels:
Now I see what you mean. I was thinking the slop was at the ball..... I now know it was the ball "mount" that was loose.

You threw me off (I confuse very easily) "The tongue fits quite loosely in the reciever. This slop was quite annoying as the weight of the trailer magnifies this movement to where it's banging everything side to side & up & down. I needed to find a shim of some kind to get rid of the sloppyness. I started layering strips of duct tape on each side of the tongue until it fit a bit tighter than before. It's not perfect but it's better than before."

The tongue is attached to the ball coupler which mounts on the ball which is attached to the ball mount which goes into the hitch receiver. Sounds like a cheap x rated movie theme.

take a piece of .050 stainless shim material and fold it for three sides (bottom and 2 sides, can be doubled up where necessary)..it holds up better then tape as tape crushes down and shifts. You can make the shim material long enough so the pin holds it in place. I used( once before) aircraft aluminum tape thick enough that it would just fit inside..smoothed it out nicely untill it got crushed and forced away from the edges where most the contact is.....

Thanks for the idea Wood. I work at a shock company so we have drawers full of shims here!

This is awesome. I have a 76 Honda 550 I need to trailer around and I was concerned that I would not be able to do it. Now when the weather breaks I will give it a try! Thanks so much for the howto!!

Scott..
