You are right about the tune. So with that in mind don't you think those guys...mdub, terminator, and everyone else puttin out 350 on a stock turbo could be putting out a s*** ton more with this 2871? It is proven to out flow the f*** out of the stock k04. The 371 on the kappa is prelimenary and it's rwd = more drivetrain loss...hey I know the difference is only like 5% but hey that would be 18.5hp for a total of 389.5whp on a front wheel drive. Not too shabby. So that would be like 30 or 40 whp for 1250....hhmmmm sounds good to me I'm sure that these guys will be gettin an easy 400whp when it is all said and done. Besides 400whp is the limit on the pistons and from what i hear after prolonged exposure to over 375-400wtq the rods will go too (heard that from btf I believe)

On another note the upgraded turbo gives a more useable powerband...it doesn't fall flat on it's back like a freshman at the prom...it has useable power to 7k +. yeah I know at that rpm we need to change the valve springs so it's something no matter what.

Point is that IN MY OPINION, based off of what I have read and by other's personal experiences, this IS a mod that is well worth the money. But hey I am looking at spending 5k on wheels so wtf do I know

ZZP made over 500 whp on stock internals and bent a rod at the end of the race season, they raced all season before it gave out.
You can raise your stock rev limiter to 7k without springs. mine has been this way for over a year now. I was advised I could go as high as 7.2k rpm but would need springs, but opted for 7k to be on the safe side.
As far as the internals on the motor, everything i read said we are good to 500 hp and that the rings were the weak link.

Oh and I looked up M-Dub on cobaltss/net. he owns a 2006 SS/SS and the other guy has a 2008 Cobalt SS/TC but doesn't post very much. Don't prove alot other then one has a Supercharged Cobalt and the other maybe don't like forums. I can see why

On top of the rings, I would imagine piston sleeves, and head bolts would be an issue above 500. Aside from all the *****ing here, I'm excited about the progress of this turbo upgrade. Anything that works less to perform better is good..... from door knobs to turbos. 375 sounds nice. Looking foward to the results. For a grocery getter its still DD'able at that HP.. I'd be a little scared of 7200 though. 7K is high enough, cuz just because it can handle it don't mean it can handle it for long. Like I said looking foward to followoing this as it progresses.

Yeah I'm kinda hoping for a bit more reliability that 100 drag passes and they had pistons on that motor. If you kept the stock pistons you would at least need to increase ring gap, but hey if you went that far you'd prolly replace the pistons anyway

And yeah I was saying at above 7k springs are needed

Let me know how everything turns out. I just had back surgery and won't be returning to work for another month but I'd like to come meet up with you and check your's out when I can

I don't think anyone, maybe aside from the gm race teams, has sleeved an lnf yet. Don't quote me and bash me if I am wrong here yall

I agree about the rpm's too...I personally won't go above 7k without springs

No problem man, we could probably meet in Birmingham some time. Some of the Cobalt SS guys from Alabama are wanting to get a meet together with the Georgia people in May I think. They were even thinking about seeing about a Dyno meet or maybe at BNR Racing.

BNR Racing is located in Trussville, AL. East of Brimingham a little, probably a 2-3 hr drive for you.

I might be going to the Nashville meet in March, depends on if the date falls in between my student teaching. I might be to wore out to go up, haha

So unless you have those stay the **** out of my thread. You sound like a jealous hater the way you came storming in here.

i'm not a jealous hater at all..... we have same car with just about the same plans.... nothing for me to jealous or hate about.

Steddy doesn't drag his car, he doesn't like straight line racing unless he's messing with Corvettes, Mustangs, Subies, whatever on the highway. he does track days with his Cobalt SS/TC at NJMP, so he could careless about time slips.

M-Dub doesn't have a Cobalt SS/SC anymore, hasn't had it for over 2 years now. he has a white 4 door Cobalt SS/TC. i know he's dragged his car before but i don't remember the time slips, iirc it was somewhere in the 12s. he has another screen name on that site, 1badblueberrys/c or something like that.

obviously you did a search for them on CSS.net, a lot of stuff went down on that site a couple years ago, certain vendors cried to authorities, people got banned, blah blah blah... but over the past 1+ years they both haven't posted there because there's a new site that has come up and we're all members over there and mostly just lurk CSS.net now.

Yeah 2 1/2 for most......an hour and 45 for those with an SSand a passport 9500 joking

I'll make the drive it doesn't matter to me I just have to be ABLE to drive...can't do that for about 2 more weeks.

Hopefully by May I might have my turbo done...maybe a little later though

If there is a meet in georgia def let me know. I will be there!

If M-Dub = 1BadBlueBerry, who you are talking about, I was going to get a tune from him a year ago when I was thinking of going HPT.He's probably the only other tuner besides Terminator or BYT that would ever tune me with HPT.
He was also running a big turbo setup, can't remember which though.

Your right all this e-fighting is stupid. Lets just wait for some people to get this turbo on and dyno'd before writing it off. There is only 2 with it right now TGlem and turbo chevy cobalt. TGlem used BYT and turbo chevy cobalt guy is using Vince. The turbo chevy cobalt guy did have a werks 2871 kit before selling it and buying the BNR K04-2871R.

The guy with the Kappa that has the K04-2871R used DDM for tuning.

yup, that's the guy i'm talking about. very good guy, i talk to him almost daily. he put down 363whp/394wtq on the stock k04 before going to a bigger setup, he's back to k04 now tho.

i'm really looking forward to seeing dyno numbers, time slips, etc. from everyone that get this upgrade. if this upgrade can get roughly 400whp, i'll start saving ASAP.... i'm not looking for more power than that.

he used DDM for tuning.... as in the DDMtuning.com? the guys with cheap HIDs?
