I agree about the rpm's too...I personally won't go above 7k without springs
There a couple of cobalts running Darton sleeves in the LNF on cobaltss.net. Simple machine shop operation that wouldn't be that expensive at all, depending on the cost of the sleeves. Basically, bore the block and leave a ridge at the bottom of the bore. The tolerances have to be really tight. Throw the block in the oven and the sleeve on some dry ice. Even doing this you need at least a 5 pound sledge to get it in the block.

Now that you say something I do remember seeing something about the
dartons on some forum somewhere lol. I don't know if I'd go that route if I build my motor...have to compare just honing the stock sleeves vs. doing the whole thing. I'll probably end up doing a build just cause I'm so high mileage at 73k miles.

See if I can get those rods from BTF or K1 cause I'm not paying a grand for
the carillos.
Wiseco pistons
Clevite bearings
ARP head studs
Supertech valve springs and retainers
Find someone generous on CSS to do a complimentary head porting for me LOL
There are a couple turbo manifolds out there but I would have to be convinced that they would be worth the $$$ with proven gains before I spent the money on one. Most of what is out there is cast and Synapse has a tubular but those are so prone to cracking I don't want to piss away that investment. So I guess I just wasted typing this cause im 99% not gonna do an exhaust manifold.

But I am absolutely convinced that 400whp is possible with this upgrade but a built motor is needed for longevity. The only issue is and will be fuel...in due time

sorry for the rant!!! sitting at home with absolutely nothing to do for the last 2 weeks...just 4 more weeks to go

I know for a fact 1 guy on cobaltss.net had a sleeved engine build. Poor sap dumped all this money into a engine build then gets rid of it because he couldn't get his fwd to hook up.

The 2871R is a ball bearing turbo correct? I thought the BNR turbos used a journal bearing.

what did he expect with all that hp and fwd

Who was it?

If I do a build, which I probably will, I'm not doing sleeves unless the price difference between sleeving and honing are not very far apart which I doubt that very much. I've done a little research today and I don't really think they are necessary for my hp goals, so unless it is just that cost efficient, im goin sleeveless

No it's a journal. Brian said that there isn't enough room for ball bearings...don't ask me the technical aspects of this as I am not sure...something about the journal housing or something

No worries, full spool up is 3,500 rpms, already confirmed by TGlems on cobaltss.net

Brian did say he tried a BB cartridge and ther was some kind of problem. I imagine the price would have been higher also for a BB turbo.

Post #13 Block with sleeves installed

I was wrong he parted the car out because he kept blowing transmissions, then he sold it stock.

Wow, those sleeves are expensive. Only block I sleeved was a SBC and the sleeves were only $45 a piece.

You guys made me look it up. 2871R is a ball bearing turbo, so quit putting the R at the end.
