charged piping wrap

has anyone tried to wrap their charged pipe with some sort of insulation wrap that would be heat proof in the engine bay similar to what you do on your exhaust manifold with a exhaust wrap to keep heat in. wrapping the charged air pipes would keep the internal temperature cooler than external i will try this when i get my order in

You don't want to insulate it. That would be similar to what you would wrap your exhaust manifold and turbine housing with. You want heat RFLECTIVE wrap. Exhaust insulation wrap wouldn't let the heat escape the charge pipes. When I looked into it, all I could find was this orange colored stuff and that just doesn't fit my color scheme, so I didn't try it.

I have seen insulated air duct with a fiberglass center and foil exterior. If I cant find the right size diameter then I will use the home depot stuff. Im hoping to get hptuner. I can see if there is a temperature difference

You have to weigh the good with the bad in this situation. An insulated pipe means that it doesn't absorb heat, but that means that it also doesn't exchange heat. If you insulated all of your pipes, you'd be putting all of the cooling in the hands of the intercooler. That's not always enough. When you heat-soak from sitting at a light or waiting in the pit, you need the pipes to exchange heat too.

IMHO, your best bet is a set of aluminum pipes routed away from major heat sources. Aluminum exchanges heat quickly and absorbs at a pretty impressive rate also. You can buy finned pipe like this Pre-Intercooler Cooling Pipe that will help out with exchanging heat. You're looking at custom installation at that point, but it's worth the trouble to do it custom. I've done pipes both ways; out of a box and with the help of a welder. I prefer custom.
