Detonation problem I think i found the fix
Basic ZZP 385whp tune right now. Will hopefully have hp tuners before getting to the dyno. I just need a baseline and to make sure it's safe to run with. The crazy code novel that was my DIC has finally calmed down. It was install error (don't let anyone play with the steering wheel whilst you've got it disconnected) While it's fun to spin it like you're driving a ship, the clockspring doesn't like it too much! Pulled one from an 06 for 25 bucks.
All I have displaying now is; POWER STEERING and SERVICE ESC. I'm guessing unfortunately these are out of my league. From what I've read here I need the steering recaliberated. I made an appt with a local shop that has a tech 2. Should take them 5 minutes at best. I'll keep you posted.

Although, you do know. that whoever buys your HHR will have 100,000 trouble-free miles!!! Now that YOU have sorted everything out!
Believe me it will take a lot to pry that car out of my hands!
That happens to be one of my most favorite cars I have ever owned. It also is such an easy car to modify and the most fun doing it :)
keep in mind my boost was turned way up to 25, so that could be the biggest problem right there, I think?
I was running stock AC/Delcos with a 30/32 gap. I haven't talked with again and he didn't say what he was going to gap them except that he hates Iridium plugs so since they don't make a copper plug for our SS's he was going one step colder and platinum plugs.

for that awesome torque spike, that it gives you.
I've been boosting over 25, with stock plugs, for over 5 years now,
with zero issues.
Don't know why your tuner hates Laser Iridium plugs.
GM DI engines were designed , & engineered, to run these plugs.
A lot of 'tuned' cars, on gas, go one heat range colder.
Ethanol 'tunes' work best, with the stock heat range.
The DI engine, is a really different beast, please don't make a mistake….

Run only 41-108 plugs, or whatever the number is for one heat range colder,
if you need a colder plug.
Use the search feature over on cobalt's.net , for 'plugs', & you'll find that
everyone runs best on Laser Iridium.
Maybe your tuner doesn't know much about LNF DI engines.
Test his knowledge, on the correct PE, for the best power, for DI.
LNF DI , make the best power at 12.8 , or .86-.88 stoich.
If he says that this is really a lean PE, than he doesn't know DI.
Do a search at cobaltss.net , on PE
DI is a really different beast, & old school tuning doesn't work.
In my LS1 Camaro, I ran NGK TR55 V-power cooper plugs, awesome plug
for the LS1 engines.
I agree with 05 HHR here. I would think as long as you're not holding WOT@25psi you should be within "safe" tolerances.
Not that I have extensive lnf tuning knowledge (I'm learning, over on the hpt board) but I'm curious to know if they have successfully tuned other lnf cars.
And I'm glad you made me check my plugs. I planned to leave in the Delco's til my first real oil change. Had the wife go out and check what ZZP sent us. I got 6 (yes 6!) Autolite Iridium XP's gapped @ .035 I'm seeing on their site these are for the 3800. I'm guessing I shouldn't use them in my lnf....?! Emailed ZZP, we'll find out tomorrow.

Ok so I emailed zzp first they said NOT to install the plugs they sent. They've been sitting in a box with the rest of the parts I didn't use. Then they asked what the part number was. What I have is Autolite Iridiums part #XP5263. Now they are saying those are correct but they prefer stock plugs gapped to .032. I'm gonna start a spark plug thread, I know I could use a lesson!
"What a ride" I think I aged 5 years in two months trying to figure out what was causing the problem I experienced. it gave me basically two codes Low fuel rail lean code and multiple cylinder misfire.
Well that could have ment 15 or more different things? Here is what I found the problem to be.
I had put in about 6 months ago an electric exhaust cut away with a separate exhaust pipe with a small muffler. My catback answer and dual exhaust sounded great and seem to be a great idea at the time.
Problem the electric switch opens it all the way or close it all the way or any position I wanted to put it.
Problem! It caused my 02 sensor to go crazy, causing the engine to go crazy lean and rich and just coo coo! runs great and normal now.
Thanks for all your help.

I ended up putting a set of plugs that he swore would take care of the problem. They were platinum plugs one step colder. I put them in and it ran like crap!
I put the stock AC/Delco plugs back in and it ran perfect..You were right this guy is old school to a certain degree more of a v8 Camaro Corvette guy. Really need someone who knows all about these eco tech turbos'

Tim,
X100!
I am so happy you found what was causing you all your grief!
Now, you can keep your HHR and have those 100,000 trouble-free miles I mentioned a couple of posts ago!
The Ecotec engine family is soooooo different than any of the V6s or V8s that the General builds.
